Prefered By

Bronze propellers are preferred by those who take part in boating tournaments and for use in ski boats. They are strong and durable and have very little flex. Boats that require a little lift find bronze propellers a big advantage. Bronze is extremely corrosion resistant and also shows no corrosion fatigue. Bronze is particularly advantageous for inboard engines. Bronze is saltwater resistant and both bronze and Nibral are ideal for use in open waters. These props are also available in many styles, pitches and diameters. Three and four blade props are available. Some companies provide a spare blade for emergencies. Stern drive props are typically made of Nibral to combine the effectiveness of bronze and aluminum with the strength of nickel.

Cost

The disadvantages of bronze props are that they are expensive. Bronze propellers are suitable only for inboard motors. There are no outboard motor friendly bronze propellers. Bronze propellers are difficult to repair. Sometimes replacement is the only option. It is difficult to carry a spare for emergency use because of the weight and high cost. They are softer than stainless steel and suffer extensive damage in the case of collision with obstacles. If the boat hits something solid, the bronze prop will lose its pitch and balance and immobilize the boat till the propeller is fixed. Bronze props can be purchased online and in stores.
